  • Details
This is an exceptional and striking vintage framed museum print featuring a black and white photograph of the renowned marble bust of the Greek philosopher Epicurus (c. 341–270 BC). The original sculpture, a celebrated Roman copy of a lost Greek bronze, is a highlight of the classical collection at the Capitoline Museums (Musei Capitolini) in Rome. The philosopher is depicted with a robust beard and drapery, embodying the gravitas of his classical period. The moody, high-contrast photograph captures the texture and presence of the ancient sculpture beautifully, making it a compelling piece of decor for a library, office, or curated gallery wall.

The photograph itself bears historical and curatorial information along the bottom edge, a common feature in educational or museum-sourced prints. This labeling identifies the subject as "Epicuro" and notes its location as "ROMA - Museo Capitolino," further including the philosopher's life dates (341 B.C. - 270 B.C.) and an edition identifier. The term Edizione inalterabile (Non-fading Edition) suggests the print was produced as a high-quality, permanent record of the artwork.

The print is housed within a wonderfully elaborate, period-appropriate frame. The frame features a deep, mottled reddish-brown wood that appears to be a burled or tortoise-shell style finish, inlaid with delicate, pale floral motifs along the inner edge—a style often associated with Italian or European decorative art from the late 19th to early 20th century. This decorative element is contrasted with a stepped, gilded liner that adds a significant border and visual depth, enhancing the classical subject matter. The entire piece exudes a rich, intellectual, and traditional aesthetic, perfect for a maximalist or dark academia style.
