Add a touch of mid-century New York history to your collection with this captivating still life oil painting on canvas board. The composition features a striking study of two ceramic vessels—a dark, subtly textured jug standing behind a beautifully detailed pitcher adorned with scrolling floral patterns, rich red blooms, and an ornate handle. Signed "M.A. Siedenburg" in the lower left corner, the piece showcases expressive brushwork and a masterful use of earthy greens, warm tans, and deep contrasting shadows. While extensive research into auction records and artist databases does not yield a widely recorded or formally listed painter by the name M.A. Siedenburg, the artwork's confident execution points to a highly skilled, perhaps locally recognized mid-century talent. Adding significantly to the piece's provenance and historical intrigue is an original framer's label on the reverse from the legendary, now-closed Lee's Art Shop at 209 West 57th Street in New York City. The label features a vintage "CIrcle 7" telephone exchange number, firmly dating the framing to the mid-20th century and suggesting the artist was part of the vibrant NYC art scene of the era. Housed in a classic gold-toned wood frame that exhibits natural, age-appropriate wear and a beautifully distressed patina, this painting is a wonderful, character-filled find for lovers of vintage still life art and authentic local history alike.
The surface of the painting bare substantial signs of age (see listing photos). In addition to the paintings surface age, there is a slight bow in two places at the bottom of the painting (see listing photos). The wear and slight bowing do not detract from the beauty or integrity of this piece.
