  • Details
This striking piece of history is an original French legal manuscript dated August 26, 1775, originating from the Bailiwick of Baugé in the Anjou region. Written during the reign of King Louis XVI—just over a decade before the French Revolution—this document serves as a formal summons (Assignation) regarding a financial dispute between two local families, the Guyons and the Albans. The text details a "Demande en reddition de compte," a legal demand for the transparency and balancing of estate or guardianship accounts. The manuscript is penned in a distinctive 18th-century cursive script on textured, hand-laid paper with rough, organic edges. It features a faint royal tax stamp on the header and a detailed itemization of legal costs (in livres) on the reverse, along with an official registration note dated August 28, 1775.

The document is presented in a contemporary, minimalist floating frame with a brass-toned metal stand. This double-glass design suspends the manuscript, highlighting its age and texture while allowing the viewer to easily observe the registration marks and accounting notes on the reverse side. The frame is designed to be easily opened, allowing the buyer to remove the document for closer inspection or preservation if desired. This is a rare opportunity to own a tangible, piece of pre-revolutionary French daily life, during a time on Earth when King Louis XVI, was King of France, beautifully preserved and ready for display.
