Capture the timeless comfort of a quiet evening with this charming antique oil on canvas painting. The beautifully rendered scene depicts an elder, white-bearded gentleman finding solace in his pipe while gazing into the glowing embers of a roaring hearth fire. Warm, ambient light spills across the rustic interior, highlighting thoughtful details like a classic teapot resting on a rich red cloth and a small stack of bound books on a green-draped table. The artist's use of deep, moody shadows contrasting with the fiery orange tones gives the piece a wonderful sense of depth and atmosphere, perfect for bringing a cozy, historic feel to a study, library, or living space. The painting was professionally reframed in 2003 in a handsome, multi-layered gold gilt wood frame with a subtle red inner accent that beautifully complements the artwork's warm palette. Please note that while the piece displays wonderfully, there is a sizable nick to the outer edge of the frame on the left side, adding a touch of worn character to its history. The back is fully finished with a dust cover and hanging wire, making this captivating fireside portrait ready to warm up its next home.
Painting is estimated to be early 1900s in age. Due to paper backing the canvas is not available for full inspection.
