  • Details
This fascinating antique document offers a glimpse into the complex world of 18th-century church politics. Dated February 2, 1768, the manuscript is titled a "Traduction d'Acte de Renonciation" (Translation of an Act of Renunciation). It formally records the decision of a high-ranking cleric, Monsieur Raimond Pellegrini (a Vicar General and Knight), to turn down a prestigious appointment. Though he had been nominated by the Lord Abbot to take over the "Priory Roger," Pellegrini used this legal instrument to officially declare that he had not taken possession of the post and was renouncing all rights to it. The text is written in a clear, legible cursive that is beautifully preserved, sitting on a sheet of hand-laid paper with distinct deckled edges.

The document is presented in a modern, minimalist floating frame with a brass-toned metal stand. This double-glass design is perfect for displaying the artifact's authentic character, particularly the scattered "foxing" (age-related spots) on the left side, which attests to its 250-year history. The frame is designed to be easily opened, allowing the buyer to remove the manuscript for conservation or closer inspection of the paper's texture and watermark. This is a unique decorative piece, ideal for anyone interested in religious history, the Ancien Régime, or the art of calligraphy.
