This exceptional and highly collectible antique serving tray was manufactured by the Meriden Britannia Company of Meriden, Connecticut, under their prestigious Rogers, Smith & Co. trademark. This mark was reserved for high-quality hollowware from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, dating this piece firmly to the American Aesthetic Movement (c. 1870–1890s).
The tray features a sought-after figural design, distinguished by its deeply cast handles that showcase a pair of stylized Cardinal birds flanking an ornate central crest. This naturalistic motif is complemented by an intricately etched or chased design on the surface and a fine geometric border around the rim. The reverse is clearly stamped with the pattern number "303" and the size designation "12" (commonly used by manufactures to denote approximate measurements for cataloging).
A beautiful and historically significant piece, this tray exhibits an authentic, rich patina and minor plate wear consistent with its age, underscoring its genuine antique charm. It is an ideal addition for collectors of American Aesthetic silver, or for use as a striking, sophisticated platter, butler's tray, or vanity accent.
Condition: Overall, excellent condition with wear consistent with antique age. The geometric floral design on the floor of the tray and the manufacturer mark on the bottom has been well worn with age and heavy use over the years. No major disclosures to note.
Measurements (approximate - rounded to the nearest quarter inch): 18 inches in length (handle to handle) 13 inches in diameter (rim to rim) 1.5 inches height at highest point
