Antique Worn Victorian Oleograph of Spaniels - Unsigned and Unframed

This is a charming and highly decorative antique print on canvas, featuring a portrait of two affectionate spaniel dogs—one sitting patiently and one running or playing. The composition and rich, moody coloring are quintessential elements of Victorian animal portraiture, evoking the style of beloved 19th-century artists such as Sir Edwin Landseer, who popularized sentimental dog studies. This piece is unsigned, as is typical for reproductions of this period.

The work is a fascinating example of early mass-market art, likely produced in the late 19th or early 20th century using a photomechanical or oleograph process that transfers a print onto canvas to mimic the texture of an original oil painting. This piece exhibits heavy wear consistent with its age and long history. The surface shows notable crazing, cracking, and wear that contribute to a highly distressed, antique aesthetic. The print has been removed from its original frame and is currently stretched onto simple, makeshift wooden stretcher bars, which is visible from the reverse and sides. Disclosures:
Substantial surface wear to canvas consistent with antique age. Canvas is worn thin as shown in listing photos when canvas is held to the light. Slight bow to stretcher bars causing the canvas to not sit flat against a wall. Craquelure present with no active shedding or flaking.

SHIPPING
As much as possible, we utilize recycled shipping boxes. The box you receive your item in may show signs of wear and pre-use.

All photos are taken in natural light and we do not use any photo filters and do not perform and photo editing (other than basic photo cropping). Depending on your monitor settings, there may be subtle differences in color once you see your item in person.
