Enhance your moody library or Dark Academia-inspired study with this handsome partial set of Lord Mahon's "History of England From the Peace of Utrecht to the Peace of Versailles." Published in London by John Murray in 1858, this "Fifth Edition, Revised" collection is bound in beautiful half-leather. The six antique volumes feature richly patinated brown spines adorned with raised bands, intricate gilt tooling, and contrasting red and black title labels. The exterior boasts vibrant, swirling marbled boards that perfectly match the marbled page edges and interior endpapers, creating a cohesive and striking shelf presence. This incomplete collection includes Volumes I, II, IV, V, VI, and VII out of the original seven, covering fascinating historical periods from 1713 to 1783. Opening the covers reveals a captivating piece of provenance in some of the books: a classic ex libris bookplate featuring an owl perched above a crest with a Greek temple. As noted, this set is a partial collection, and the bookplate is missing from the inside covers of some of the volumes. The books remain in good antique condition, displaying an authentic, time-worn character with expected rubbing to the leather extremities that only adds to their historic charm.
