Presenting a striking mid-19th-century half-leather volume of "History of the Consulate and the Empire of France Under Napoleon" by M. A. Thiers. Published in London by Willis and Sotheran in 1857, this piece (containing Volumes 15 and 16) is a beautiful example of classic Victorian bookbinding. It features an elegant half-leather binding over vibrant, multi-colored marbled paper boards, perfectly complemented by matching marbled page edges and an ornate spine heavily detailed with gold gilt tooling. Opening the front cover reveals a fascinating piece of provenance: a beautifully illustrated 1900 "Ex Libris" bookplate belonging to Robert Heysham Sayre of South Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Please note that this 160-plus-year-old book is in authentic, weathered antique condition, making it a perfect addition to a "dark academia" display or a rustic home library. It exhibits noticeable wear, a reattached front board, including heavy rubbing and scuffing to the leather corners and spine joints, chipping at the spine ends, partial cracking along the outer hinges, and typical age-related toning and light foxing to the pages. Despite these structural imperfections, it remains a highly decorative and historically rich volume that brings instant texture and distinguished character to any shelf or tabletop vignette.

VINTAGE & ANTIQUE Vintage and antique items are pre-owned and aged goods. In most cases, we do not clean or polish any items that come into our shop. Once you remove an item's traces of age and patina it's not something you can reverse, so we leave those activities up to the buyer. We do not disassemble found art from their frames unless it is necessary to differentiate a print from an original piece of art. Vintage prints purchased from this shop could originate from any print media (e.g., magazines, books, photographs, art prints, etc.). We try our best to describe items accurately and disclose any and all flaws and imperfections. Please refer to pictures as a visual description. We want to make sure you are happy with your purchase so, please do not hesitate to ask any questions you may have prior to checkout.
SHIPPING As much as possible, we utilize recycled shipping boxes. The box you receive your item in may show signs of wear and pre-use.
PHOTOGRAPHY All photos are taken in natural light and we do not use any photo filters and do not perform and photo editing (other than basic photo cropping). Depending on your monitor settings, there may be subtle differences in color once you see your item in person.
