  • Details
Add a piece of genuine history to your collection with this antique blown glass bottle, likely dating to the mid-to-late 19th century (c. 1860–1890). Known as "Black Glass" due to its deep, dark olive-green color that appears black in low light, this vessel was typically used for storing wine, port, or spirits. The glass is full of character, featuring numerous trapped air bubbles ("seeds"), whittle marks, and surface striations that serve as hallmarks of its hand-blown construction.

The bottle features a classic cylindrical body with high, rounded shoulders leading to a long neck. The top is finished with an "applied lip"—a separate band of glass added by the glassblower to reinforce the mouth for a cork—which is a key indicator of its age, predating modern machine-made bottles. The base features a deep "kick-up" or punt with a central scar (likely a sand or blowpipe pontil mark), a structural design intended to catch sediment and provide stability during transport.

    Condition:
This bottle is in antique condition. It displays age-appropriate wear, including surface scratches, scuffs, and some interior residue. There are no major cracks or chips visible, but the glass exhibits the natural imperfections (wavy texture, bubbles) expected from 19th-century manufacturing.

Measurements (approximate - rounded to the nearest inch):
    15 inches in height
    6 inches in diameter
