  • Details
This ornate silver-plated jewelry casket is an exquisite example of late Victorian or Edwardian-era vanity decor, perfect for storing prized trinkets with vintage flair. The exterior features a rich repoussé design, highlighted by a central oval medallion framed by delicate floral swags and rose motifs that wrap around its oval body. A high-domed lid with tiered molding opens on a sturdy hinge to reveal a luxurious, deep fuchsia or red velvet-lined interior, providing a soft, protective cushion for jewelry. The underside of the box and the interior of the lid display an intricate, all-over scrolled filigree pattern, showcasing high-level craftsmanship even in hidden areas.

Based on the specific motifs and construction, this piece likely dates to the late 19th or early 20th century, approximately 1890–1915. While there is no visible maker's mark in the provided images, the specific combination of rose swags and a central medallion was a hallmark of the Art Metal movement in the early 1900s. Many identified examples featuring this exact filigree base are attributed to American silver companies located in Connecticut or Rhode Island, reinforcing its status as a high-quality domestic antique. Jennings Brothers (JB) is a strong possibility, as they were a premier American manufacturer famous for heavy, high-quality "Art Metal" jewelry caskets often featuring rose and swag patterns. Another likely candidate is the Weidlich Brothers (WB Mfg Co), who were known for patenting "Colonial" and Art Nouveau designs with similar rounded forms and floral reliefs. International Silver Co. was also a major producer of silver-plated dresser boxes that frequently utilized red velvet linings and floral repoussé. Alternatively, the piece could be an early production from Godinger Silver Art Co., who are well-known in the antique market for this specific "Old Country Roses" and medallion aesthetic. The presence of the intricate scrollwork on the bottom is a sign of a superior quality piece, as mass-produced versions often left the underside plain.

*Please note: the color of the velvet liner is a darker tone in person. Photos make it appear "brighter" or lighter in tone.
