This exceptional vintage storage container is a quintessential example of Arthur Court’s "Animalia" series, masterfully blending a whimsical, Victorian-inspired aesthetic with the substantial feel of traditional metalwork. Unlike the more common aluminum versions, this rare find is finished in a heavy, hand-cast brass (or bronze) alloy, providing a rich, golden luster and a satisfying weight. Likely produced in the late 1970s, the piece features a charmingly stout Pug seated in a unique egg-like silhouette. The body is expertly crafted from a rich, turned hardwood that showcases a deep, warm grain, providing a beautiful organic contrast to the polished metal limbs and head.
The dog’s character is brought to life with remarkably detailed facial features and expressive inset glass eyes that add a lifelike, soulful quality to the sculpture. Designed with both form and utility in mind, the dog’s head serves as a hinged lid, opening smoothly to reveal a spacious, finished interior. While originally intended to serve as a high-end tobacco humidor or library vessel, it functions perfectly today as a unique "secret" stash box for jewelry, a desk organizer, or a statement centerpiece for an eclectic office. The ingenious design utilizes the dog's front paws and its iconic curled tail as stable supports, allowing the piece to sit securely on any surface.
Condition:
Excellent vintage condition. The wood body has marks of wear, scratches, and knicks consistent with vintage age. Hinged lid functions smoothly. Gapping exists between the wood body and metal head (see listing photos closely).

We try our best to describe items accurately and disclose any and all flaws and imperfections. Please refer to pictures as a visual description.
