Imbue your living space with a piece of authentic industrial history that doubles as a functional work of art. This distinctive table features an original vintage printer’s type case that has been thoughtfully repurposed into a glass-topped shadowbox, perfect for the collector with a keen eye for Dark Academia or eclectic farmhouse design. The rich, dark wood tones and the protective glass surface create an ideal stage for displaying your most treasured small items, from geological specimens and jewelry to vintage curiosities, keeping them safe and dust-free while remaining the center of attention.

The tray itself appears to be a standard California Job Case, a layout once essential to the letterpress printing era. It features a specific arrangement of compartments originally designed to hold lead type, with smaller sections for frequently used lower-case letters and larger sections for capitals. This history is preserved in the wood’s patina, which likely bears the authentic ink stains and wear earned through years of service in a working print shop. The piece is finished with original cast iron bin pulls on the front, adding a touch of heavy-duty industrial character that is highly sought after in period furniture.

Supporting the display case is a vintage wood trestle base, which lends the table a unique campaign furniture aesthetic. The industrial legs suggest a history of utility, contrasting beautifully with the delicate items you might choose to display inside. This structural design allows the piece to function comfortably as a small sofa console, a unique entryway table, or a specialized side table, offering versatility depending on your room’s layout.

The wood construction is solid, and the glass top provides a clear view of the interior compartments. This is a rare opportunity to own a piece of functional history that invites interaction and storytelling every time a guest leans in to see what is preserved beneath the glass.

    Disclosures:
This item is vintage and shows signs of age that contribute to its story such as deep scratches, knicks, and gouges to the wood. The front right corner of the glass top has a large chip on the underside of the glass that is not felt from the top of the glass. The glass top can be repositioned to place the chip toward the back of the tabletop if you so choose. We love the character all of these flaws add to this beautifully aged piece. See listing photos closely for best description of condition.
