Antique Small Framed Chromolithograph of St. Catherine of Alexandria - Cathrine of the Wheel

History of St. Catherine:

Often known as St. Catherine of the Wheel, Saint Catherine of Alexandria was a highly educated and revered Christian martyr from the 4th century. Legend states that she was a young, noblewoman of immense intellect who debated against pagan philosophers, converting many of them to Christianity through her profound wisdom. Her unwavering faith led to her martyrdom. She was sentenced to be tortured on a spiked breaking wheel, but according to tradition, the wheel miraculously shattered upon her touch, leading to her eventual beheading. Because of her association with this miraculous event, she is widely known as St. Catherine of the Wheel. Her courage and intellect have made her a patron saint of philosophers, students, and librarians, and she remains a deeply significant figure in Christian history.

Excellent antique condition. The copper frame is heavily oxidized and patinaed but maintains its structural integrity.

As much as possible, we utilize recycled shipping boxes. The box you receive your item in may show signs of wear and pre-use.
